FFC: Flexible Flat Cable
FPC: Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC)
Table
| Project | FFC Flexible Flat Cable | FPC Flexible Circuit Board |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing process | Two layers of PET film sandwiching parallel tinned copper foil compression molding, no etching | PI substrate copper-clad, photolithography etching out of the circuit, with cover film and reinforcement sheet |
| Substrate | PET (polyester), temperature resistance to low~85 ℃ | PI polyimide, temperature resistance to 130-200 ℃, high temperature welding resistance |
| Line | can only correspond to parallel straight lines at a 1:1 ratio, with a fixed line spacing (0.5/1.0mm), and cannot be forked or wound | can be routed, forked, through-hole, multi-layer board arbitrarily, can be used for impedance and shielding, and can solder resistive capacitive chips |
| Bending life | Ordinary static bending; Dynamic repeated bending life is poor, usually several thousand times, not suitable for repeated swinging of the shaft | Rolled copper FPC has a high bending life, tens of thousands to millions of times, suitable for dynamic bending of folding screens and shafts |
| Cost | Cheap, standard products, abundant stock, small customization changes | Expensive, requires mold customization, produced according to drawings |
| Welding | Reflow soldering is not allowed; Only compatible with ZIF connectors for crimping, cannot directly solder components | Can be reflow soldered, can solder components, can be used as gold fingers, and can directly solder PCB boards |
| Connector | FFC connector (ZIF) | FPC connector (partially compatible, but cannot be mixed) |
| Typical applications | Direct connection between displays, screen cables, printers, industrial control, and simple modules, low-speed signal | Mobile phone cameras, folding screen hinges, watches, modules, products that require complex circuits, high-frequency signals, and dynamic bending |
⚠️ Attention: FFC and FPC connectors cannot be interchanged casually. The gold finger structures of the two are different, and forcibly mixing them will result in poor contact and board burning.
